The Redskins have signed PK Neil Rackers to a one-year deal, according to PFW Texans correspondent John McClain of the Houston Chronicle. Financial terms were not announced.
Rackers visited the Redskins on Monday and will compete for the team’s starting placekicker job with veteran Graham Gano.
With the Texans last season, Rackers made 32-of-38 field goals and 39-of-40 extra points. He also averaged nearly 63 yards per kickoff.
Rackers spent the past two seasons in Houston after starting his career with the Bengals and then seven years with the Cardinals. For his career, he has made 80 percent of his field goals.
Gano made 75.6 percent of his field goals last season for Washington, his third year with the team.
The Texans have no kickers on their roster with Rackers’ departure, and according to McClain, the team may draft one for the first time in franchise history this week.
