Cowboys OLB Anthony Spencer signed his franchise-tag tender on Monday, guaranteeing his $8.856 million salary for the 2012 season.

Spencer, a first-round pick of the team in 2007, has recorded 21½ sacks in five seasons. He has played in all 48 games for Dallas the past three years, starting 47 of them, mainly playing across from All-Pro DeMarcus Ware.

In his career, Spencer has recorded 266 tackles to go along with 10 forced fumbles and one interception.

The way we see it

Cowboys fans can be glad that Spencer now should be a full contributor in the entire offseason program with the tender signed. But it also puts him in a familiar place: in the crosshairs. He's entering his second straight contract season and must produce more in the pressure department opposite Ware in order to earn the long-term deal from Dallas that he is looking for.
