The Saints and CB Jabari Greer have agreed to a contract extension that will keep him in New Orleans through 2015, Greer’s agent, Mark Bloom, confirmed to Pro Football Weekly.

It’s a three-year extension, and the total value of the deal exceeds $23 million. Specific contract details were not available. Greer’s deal was set to expire after this coming season, and the team approached him about remaining with the team for the long term.

“It shows that with his progressive level of success and high level of play, the Saints are rewarding Jabari,” Bloom said. “The Saints are echoing what the fans think. In three years, Jabari has become one of the best corners ever in a Saints uniform.”

Greer has been the Saints’ best cover man since their Super Bowl run during the 2009 season.

The Saints have been the biggest NFL story of the offseason after it was discovered that former defensive coordinator Gregg Williams ran a system that put bounties on opposing players.

It’s expected that multiple players from the Saints’ team the past three seasons will be suspended by the league. But Greer was not one of the players whom commissioner Roger Goodell is considering disciplining, according to league sources.

Greer has been outspoken, insisting that Saints defenders did not try to deliberately injure opponents despite the NFL’s allegations that the team ran a pay-for-play system that rewarded players for “knockout” and “cart-off” hits from 2009 through ’11.

The league revealed after its three-year investigation into the alleged “bounty” program that it found 22-27 defensive players were involved in the program. The Saints were fined $500,000, were forced to forfeit second-round picks in 2012 and 2013 and had suspensions dealt to head coach Sean Payton (one year), GM Mickey Loomis (eight games) and assistant head coach Joe Vitt (six games), but player sanctions have yet to be announced.

Greer turned 30 in February and is heading into his ninth season. He has spent the last three with the Saints after signing with them as an unrestricted free agent following five seasons with the Bills.

A starter in 37 of the 39 games he’s played in for the Saints, Greer has nine career interceptions.
