The Colts have informed Stanford QB Andrew Luck that he will be the No. 1 pick in next week’s NFL draft, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Thursday.

The news comes as no surprise, as Luck is the consensus top player available in the draft. He is ranked No. 1 in PFW draft analyst Nolan Nawrocki’s rankings and has been projected as the Colts’ pick ever since the team secured the top pick last January.

At a press conference on Wednesday, Colts GM Ryan Grigson told the media the team knew who they’d select with the top pick, but did not reveal that it was Luck.

"We've known for a little while. We've done all our due diligence," Grigson said. "Unless there's an unforeseen problem or something like that, we know what we're doing."

Luck is expected to be the Colts’ starting quarterback for the 2012 season, replacing Peyton Manning as the centerpiece of the franchise.
