After helping the Broncos land Peyton Manning earlier in the offseason, WR Brandon Stokley signed his own contract with the team on Monday.

The veteran wideout reached a one-year contract with Denver; financial terms were not announced. Stokley played for Denver from 2007-09, and has played with the Seahawks and Giants the past two seasons.

However, his greatest success came early in his career, where he was a teammate of Manning’s with the Colts from 2003-06. Stokley’s best season came in ’04, when he had 68-1,077-10 receiving as Indianapolis’ slot receiver.

Stokley lives in the Denver area, and he hosted Manning at his house when the quarterback was deciding where to sign with in free agency. The two are close friends, and ran routes together in a Colorado park before Manning met with Broncos executive VP of football operations John Elway and head coach John Fox in mid-March.

The way we see it

The Broncos were in the market for a veteran receiver, and Stokley’s comfort level with Manning clearly was a huge selling point for the team. He should be able to come run in and be a reliable target, while also serving as a mentor for young WRs Demaryius Thomas, Eric Decker and Andre Caldwell.
