The Steelers announced on Monday they have re-signed QB Charlie Batch to a one-year deal. Financial terms were not announced.

Batch has been on the Steelers since 2002 after playing the first four years of his career with the Lions. The Pittsburgh native has played in 31 games with his hometown team, starting seven of them, and throwing for 1,594 yards, 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

With Ben Roethlisberger the clear-cut starter in Pittsburgh and Troy Smith and Jerrod Johnson on board as developmental QBs, Batch will serve as a veteran backup who knows the system and who can mentor the two youngsters.

The team still could opt to re-sign free-agent QBs Dennis Dixon or Byron Leftwich.
