The Broncos have released CB André Goodman, creating a spot in the starting lineup for one of their free-agent pickups.

Goodman, who will be 34 when the 2012 regular season begins, started 40 games over the past three seasons for Denver. During his 10-year career, he has 342 tackles and 19 interceptions, having played for the Lions and Dolphins before signing with the Broncos in 2009. He also has one career interception return for a touchdown, which took place last season during a fourth-quarter comeback vs. the Jets.

The veteran’s spot in the starting lineup became expendable when the Broncos signed former Saints CB Tracy Porter earlier in the offseason. Porter is expected to take over at right cornerback, as he is younger and a better fit for the team’s new defensive system under coordinator Jack Del Rio.
