A judge in Broward County, Fla., has instructed free-agent WR Plaxico Burress to disclose his personal finances as a result of a $125,000 judgment against him stemming from a May 2008 auto accident, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported Wednesday.

In December a jury found Burress liable for injuries suffered by Alise Smith when his Mercedes rear-ended her car on the Florida Turnpike. Smith, 31, will eventually require neck surgery, her attorney said.

According to Smith’s attorney, Anthony Quackenbush, Burress has made no attempt to pay the judgment. Records show that Burress’ auto insurance expired three days before the May 16, 2008, crash, the Sun-Sentinel indicated.

Last August, Burress signed a one-year, $3 million contract with the Jets after completing a 20-month prison sentence stemming from a gun charge after he accidentally shot himself at a New York nightclub. His contract expired at the end of last season, and he is now an unrestricted free agent.

Burress’ attorney, Adam Swickle, said he was “vigorously appealing” the verdict based on “various errors.” He has filed paperwork with the 4th District Court of Appeal in West Palm Beach, Fla.
