The Buccaneers released S Tanard Jackson on Tuesday, citing a failed physical.

Jackson served a suspension that lasted more than a year for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy. The suspension began following Week Two in 2010 and he was reinstated on Oct. 11 of this past year.

According to Rick Stroud of The Tampa Bay Times, GM Mark Dominik said the Bucs are not aware of a failed drug test or sanctions pending from the NFL. He also said the Bucs "weren't happy with Jackson's growth on and off the field."

In 2011, Jackson started all 10 games he played, making 35 tackles and two interceptions.

Since joining the Bucs in 2007, Jackson had started all 56 games he played, recording 27 passes defensed, 10 interceptions and two TDs on interception returns.
