The release Wednesday afternoon of the NFL’s preseason schedule for the 2012 season revealed that the Packers will be opening the 2012 campaign on a national stage vs. the Chargers on Thursday, Aug. 9, at San Diego on ESPN at 8 p.m. ET. The game will mark the third consecutive season that the Packers will play a preseason game on national TV, and the sixth time in Mike McCarthy’s seven seasons as head coach.
In Week Two of the preseason (Aug. 16-19), the Packers will host Cleveland. In Week Three (Aug. 23-26), Green Bay will remain in Ohio to do battle with the Bengals. In their preseason finale (Aug. 30-31), the Packers will host the Chiefs and be looking for revenge against the only team to knock them off in last year’s regular season.
The Packers will be playing both Cleveland and Kansas City in the preseason for the third year in a row. The last preseason meeting with Cincinnati came in 2008, and the most recent one with San Diego was in 2006, McCarthy’s first preseason game as head coach.
