The Chargers have reached an agreement with DE Luis Castillo, re-signing the veteran lineman on Wednesday. The deal is for one year, with financial terms not announced.
Castillo played in just one game last season after breaking his leg in the team’s season opener. The seven-year vet had been a consistent player for the Chargers prior to the shortened 2011 season, starting at least nine games each year since he was a first-round pick out of Northwestern in 2005.
The Chargers released Castillo in February in a salary-cap move. He was set to earn a $1 million roster bonus in March if he was still on the roster.
The way we see it
It is unlikely Castillo will reclaim his spot in the starting lineup given the way Vaughn Martin filled in for him last season. However, his signing does add depth to the team, along with veteran leadership.
