The Chargers continue to add depth to their special teams, as they have signed free agent return specialist Michael Spurlockto a one-year deal.
Spurlock spent the past three seasons with the Buccaneers after previously playing for the 49ers and Cardinals. He has gained 25.1 yards per kickoff return and 8.1 yards per punt return during his career. He has a combined three return touchdowns.
In San Diego, he will be reunited with Chargers special teams coach Rich Bisaccia, who had the same role in Tampa Bay during part of Spurlock’s time there.
The way we see it
After signing Eddie Royal and Roscoe Parrish earlier in the offseason, the Chargers are proving their commitment to improve on special teams with the addition of Spurlock. Those three will all be in competition for the return jobs, along with incumbents Richard Goodman and Antoine Cason.
