The Saints have reached a five-year deal with LB David Hawthorne. Financial terms have not been announced.
Hawthorne comes to New Orleans after spending the first four seasons of his career with the Seahawks. In both 2010 and ’11, he eclipsed 100 tackles in a season, led by the 115 stops he made a year ago. Hawthorne added six passes defensed and three interceptions for Seattle last season.
PFW’s 55th-ranked free agent this offseason, Hawthorne is the latest in a parade of linebackers to join the Saints. Earlier this offseason, the team signed MLB Curtis Lofton from the Falcons and OLB Chris Chamberlain of the Rams.
New Orleans did lose OLB Jo-Lonn Dunbar in free agency and may be without MLB Jonathan Vilma at the start of the 2012 season because of a likely suspension for his role in the team's bounty program.
