After addressing several of their other needs in free agency, the Chargers solidified their defensive line by re-signing NT Antonio Garay on Wednesday. The deal is for two years, with financial terms not announced.
Garay, who ranked as PFW’s 49th-best free agent this offseason, has started 28 games over the past two seasons after being a backup during his first five years in the league. Last year he recorded a career-high 57 tackles, along with 2½ sacks.
The way we see it
This move comes as little surprise, as the Chargers always had the intent to bring back one of their best — and most well-liked — defenders. Garay doesn’t rush the passer very well, but he clogs up the middle of the field and allows LBs Takeo Spikes and Donald Butler to make plays.
