At the NFL owners meeting’s annual NFC coaches’ breakfast Wednesday morning, Packers head coach Mike McCarthy raised some eyebrows when he hinted that the Packers could be bringing back both OLT Chad Clifton and WR Donald Driver in 2012. The two aging veterans both have been widely rumored to be sent packing, but McCarthy indicated otherwise.

McCarthy said the 35-year-old Clifton’s return would hinge on how well he recovers from recent back surgery in Tennessee. As for Driver, who is currently preoccupied with his “Dancing with the Stars” appearance, McCarthy told reporters in Florida that he thought the 37-year-old receiver actually had a very strong second half last season.

McCarthy also said star FS Nick Collins, who missed most of last season with a career-threatening neck injury, will be seeing a specialist later this week, but that a decision on his status could take a while.
