The Bengals have kept one of their top defenders, re-signing OLB Manny Lawson on Wednesday. Terms and conditions of the deal were not announced.

Lawson started 15 games and had 52 tackles for Cincinnati a year ago, his first with the team. He also added 1½ sacks and four passes defensed.

“We’re glad to have him back and keep going along,” head coach Marvin Lewis said on Wednesday from the NFL’s owners meetings in Palm Beach, Fla. “Manny is still a young guy and we’ll continue to grow and manage him. The offseason program will be tremendous and help him."

Lawson was ranked No. 94 on PFW’s list of the top 100 free agents.

The way we see it

With Lawson returning, the Bengals have all three 2011 starters at linebacker back in the fold for 2012. One area of intrigue at the position is the future of Keith Rivers, who missed the 2011 season with a wrist injury. The ’08 first-round pick was a starter in his first three NFL seasons before the injury, but Thomas Howard played well on the weak side in his absence in 2011.
