The Bears have signed WR Devin Thomas to a one-year contract. Financial terms were not announced.
A former second-round pick of the Redskins, Thomas has struggled as a receiver since entering the league in 2008. He played for three teams prior to signing with Chicago and has just 43 career receptions in 55 games over four seasons.
Thomas’ greatest impact with the Bears may be on special teams. As a member of the Giants last season, Thomas had five special-teams tackles and forced a fumble during the regular season and added one tackle and two fumble recoveries in the playoffs. He recovered a fumble in overtime of the NFC championship game, which helped New York reach the Super Bowl.
Thomas also contributed as a kick returner during the regular season, averaging 24.3 yards on 25 returns.
