Now that they have acquired Tim Tebow, the Jets have traded backup QB Drew Stanton to the Colts for an undisclosed draft choice.
Stanton signed with the Jets on March 16 with the idea he would be the backup quarterback behind Mark Sanchez next season. However, when Tebow became available, New York decided to deal two draft choices to the Broncos for him, pushing Stanton to third-string. He asked Jets management to release or trade him, and now they have done so.
With the Colts, Stanton likely will back up the expected No. 1 overall draft pick, Stanford’s Andrew Luck.
In four NFL seasons — all with the Lions — Stanton has started four games and thrown five touchdown passes with nine interceptions.
