Addition of CB Ross bolsters Jaguars CB depth

While the Jaguars’ acquisitions of WR Laurent Robinson and backup QB Chad Henne early in the free-agent signing period, not to mention the bizarre attempt to trade for Tim Tebow, made most of the headlines in Jacksonville, one under-the-radar signing by GM Gene Smith that could pay big dividends was CB Aaron Ross. Much like his signing with the Jaguars, Ross’ contributions during the Giants’ Super Bowl run may have gone largely unnoticed to casual observers, but he was a key figure while starting all but one game — including the postseason — for the Giants. After the nightmarish stretch of injuries the Jags dealt with at corner last season, including starters Rashean Mathis and Derek Cox going down with season-ending injuries, Ross bolsters the depth of the unit considerably. Ross isn't a lockdown corner or interception artist, but he is a tough, dependable veteran who could end up serving as more than just a backup in Jacksonville.
