Buccaneers DE Michael Bennett has signed his restricted free-agent tender, the team announced Monday.

Bennett received a first-round tender from Tampa Bay and will have a guaranteed salary of $2.7 million in 2012. A team would have to give up a first-round pick if it signed Bennett to an offer sheet and the Bucs chose not to match the offer, but Bennett is expected to play for the Bucs next season.

Bennett, 26, made a career-high four sacks in 14 games last season. He started 10 games at left end, playing opposite rookie DE Adrian Clayborn.

The way we see it

The Bucs didn't want to risk losing Bennett, so they were willing to give him a high tender offer. He was a spark for the pass rush at times last season. Bennett will get a chance to start again, but could get some competition for the job from 2011 second-round pick Da'Quan Bowers.
