49ers UFA QB Alex Smith will visit the Dolphins on Sunday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported. The Associated Press also reported Smith's expected visit.
Davis Hsu, who writes for Fieldgulls.com, may have been the first to have broken the news that Smith was on his way to Miami. He wrote on Twitter early Sunday morning: "I am on flight right now (red eye) from San Francisco to Miami- QB Alex Smith is sitting in first class- you connect the dots."
Smith threw for 3,144 yards with 17 TD passes and five interceptions in 2011. The 49ers have shown interest in ex-Colts QB Peyton Manning.
Manning and Smith are represented by the same agent, Tom Condon. The San Francisco Chronicle reported that Smith is considering changing his representation. The Chronicle also reported that Smith has been offered a three-year, $24 million contract from San Francisco.
Smith is ranked 29th on PFW's list of the top 100 free agents of 2012.
