Bucs' ownership changing perception

There were quite a few skeptical Buccaneers fans in Tampa when Bucs co-chairman Joel Glazer vowed in January to spend whatever it takes to win. One source said the statement had become "a punch line" for the segment of the fan base that didn't put any stock in Glazer's words.

The Bucs' response to the doubts about their commitment came in the form of a free-agent spending spree earlier this week, in which WR Vincent Jackson, OG Carl Nicks and CB Eric Wright were signed to contracts that included a combined $67 million in guaranteed money.

From the major spending binge to the team's announcement after the season that they wouldn't be participating in games overseas — they had twice played in London over the past three seasons — for the foreseeable future, the Glazers have made significant upgrades from a public-relations standpoint. The question is: Will it translate to a spike in ticket sales? They've struggled to avoid local TV blackouts and sell out their stadium for home games over the past two seasons.
