Redskins TE Fred Davis, who had the franchise tag placed on him earlier in March, signed his one-year tender.

That means Davis will be paid $5.446 million for one year. He and the team can negotiate toward a long-term deal until next free-agency period, when he will be up again.

The Redskins will need all the receiving assistance they can find, with the team expected to draft Baylor's Robert Griffin III with the second pick in the draft.

Davis, 26, returns after a career season in which he established single-season highs in receptions (59) and receiving yards (796) despite missing the last four games of the season after being suspended for violating the league's substance-abuse policy. The 796 yards were the fourth-most in a season by a tight end in Redskins history.

In his four-year NFL career, Davis has recorded 131 receptions for 1,648 yards and 12 touchdowns.
