You better believe the Niners thought long and hard about Randy Moss' well-documented character concerns before signing the six-time Pro Bowler and all-time single-season TD reception leader (23 in 2007) to a one-year, $2.5 million contract (worth up to $4 million with incentives). But word is the team believes Moss will be more than a little inspired by a veteran core of bona fide leader types — including Justin Smith, Joe Staley and Carlos Rogers, among others — to avoid marching to the beat of his own drum and causing any kind of disruptions. "That's part of it," one source on the scene told PFW. ""But the other thing is that it has been made very clear to him that nothing is guaranteed, and that his playing time will be determined solely by how he performs in OTAs and training camp. He knows what happened to Braylon Edwards here. This could be the first time in his career where he will really have to prove himself."
