The Jets found their backup signalcaller behind QB Mark Sanchez, signing Drew Stanton to a one-year deal worth $1.25 million, according to multiple reports.
Stanton was with the Lions from 2008-11. He has four career starts, five touchdown passes and nine interceptions.
Stanton joins Greg McElroy as Sanchez's backups. QBs Mark Brunell and Kevin O'Connell are unrestricted free agents.
The way we see it
The Jets gave Sanchez an extension last week, cementing him as a starter and possibly keeping them from bringing someone in that would challenge Sanchez. Originally, they had interest in Chad Henne, who signed with the Jaguars. Stanton showed some promise when he started in place of an injured Matthew Stafford in 2010.
