The Browns have released DE Jayme Mitchell, the club announced Friday.

Mitchell started 13 games for the Browns a season ago but notched only 1½ sacks. The Browns added Bengals DE Frostee Rucker and Eagles DE Juqua Parker early in free agency, a signal that Mitchell's time in Cleveland could be coming to a close.

The Browns acquired Mitchell during the 2010 season from Minnesota, but he did not appear in a game in his first campaign with Cleveland. The 28-year-old defensive end notched five sacks as a Vikings reserve from 2006-10.

In addition to the release of Mitchell, the Browns made official the signings of Parker and CB Dimitri Patterson, agreements reported earlier in the week,
