Our sources in Seattle tell us the team considers its free-agent activity a smashing success regardless of what happens the rest of the offseason, with the Seahawks having re-signed both RB Marshawn Lynch and DE Red Bryant to long-term deals. "Those were the two moves they really wanted to take care of," said one team insider.
Although Lynch is a higher-profile cornerstone because of his impressive rushing totals and "Beast Mode" running style, daily team observers tell us Bryant is considered an equally pivotal part of the team's success. "You knew Red would be stout against the run," the insider said. "But nobody expected the two interceptions, the four blocked kicks, the overall imposing presence."
Head coach Pete Carroll echoed those sentiments at this year's Combine. "He's a monster playing on the tight-end side," Carroll said of Bryant. "The kind of attitude and personality that Red brings is very special to us."
