The Broncos have signed former Browns unrestricted free-agent S Mike Adams, adding depth to their aging secondary. The deal is for two years, with financial terms unknown.

Adams started all 16 games for the Browns last season, his fifth in Cleveland. He registered 61 tackles and three interceptions in 2011, along with one fumble forced.

Denver was in need of some secondary depth, as SS Brian Dawkins is a free agent and is coming off a serious neck injury. The team drafted two safeties in 2011, but neither Rahim Moore nor Quinton Carter proved himself as a standout during his first year in the NFL.

The way we see it

It is no surprise the Broncos added a safety, as PFW reported a week ago that it was "all but certain" the team would sign a player at the position. Adams is a solid, veteran player who should be an upgrade to the current players in the secondary while also becoming a mentor for Moore and Carter. Dawkins' future is undetermined, as he may opt to retire at age 38.
