The Browns have re-signed CB Dimitri Patterson to a three-year contract, ProFootballTalk.com reported on Thursday.

According to PFT, the deal is worth $16 million, with $6 million guaranteed.

Patterson, who turns 29 in June, defended 12 passes in 14 games for Cleveland a season ago, with his primary role covering the slot.

The way we see it

Patterson's return keeps the Browns' solid CB group of Joe Haden, Sheldon Brown and Patterson intact. The contract numbers for Patterson, as reported by PFT, suggest it would not be a surprise if he played a bigger role, perhaps as early as 2012. Nevertheless, teams can never have enough good CB help, and Patterson would fill a valuable function even if he stayed as the inside corner. Patterson rebounded in 2011 after having his struggles with Philadelphia the previous season.
