Martellus Bennett finally has fantasy relevance after four seasons as a backup to Cowboys TE Jason Witten, a future Hall of Famer. In four seasons, Bennett caught 85-846-4 on 130 targets but should start for the Giants in 2012. Jake Ballard and Travis Beckum both suffered torn ACLs in the Super Bowl and could start the season on the PUP list leaving Bear Pascoe as Bennett's only competition. However, Pascoe was the team's No. 3 TE and the Giants believed they had to find someone else.

Bennett is a natural athlete who has the physical tools to succeed. He has good hands and moves with agility after the catch and can run with power. In terms of physical skills, he's arguably the best tight end in the team has had in years. That's on paper, as he has had issues with work ethic and attitude, but this is a veteran team and he's on a one-year $2.5 million contract. In essence he's already playing for 2013.

Last season, QB Eli Manning connected with his three tight ends — Ballard, Beckum and Pascoe — for 55 catches, 833 yards and five TDs. In 2010, he had Kevin Boss, Beckum and Pascoe, who combined for 57 catches for 719 yards and seven TDs. There's no doubt the potential is there.

Look at Bennett as a No. 2 tight end with upside as he's sure to have a career season and has something to play for.
