The Jets announced Wednesday that they re-signed PK Nick Folk, who was an unrestricted free agent.

This will be Folk's third season with the Jets after beginning his career with the Cowboys in 2006. In 2011, Folk converted 19-of-25 field goals and all 44 extra points. Seventeen of his 81 kickoffs went for touchbacks.

The Jets re-signed Folk last offseason to a one-year contract. He hit a game-winning field goal in the Jets' win over the Colts in the 2010 playoffs.

The way we see it

This does not come as a surprise. Folk was effective last season, though he attempted only 25 field goals. He's far from great and has had to compete the last two seasons to win the starting job, and he may have to again in camp.
