NT Paul Soliai is re-signing with the Dolphins, deciding not to take a scheduled trip to visit the Broncos.
Soliai played under the franchise tag for the club in 2011, worth $12.5 million. In 2010, he had 39 tackles, two sacks and eight tackles for loss. Last season, he racked up 27 tackles, three tackles for loss and two passes defensed.
The two-year deal is for $12 million with $6 million guaranteed, according to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald.
The Dolphins were 12th in the league in run defense up the middle last season.
The way we see it
The two sides never seemed close to a deal, failing to get a long-term contract done before the deadline for franchise tags in September. It also didn't look good for Soliai to re-sign when Kevin Coyle, who ran the 4-3 in Cincinnati, was hired as the defensive coordinator. It is a good move, though, for Miami. Soliai is a stout run stuffer and has wanted to remain with the Dolphins.
