WR Pierre Garcon wrote on his Facebook on Tuesday afternoon that he will sign with the Redskins.

Set to enter his fifth NFL season, Garcon spent the first four years of his career with the Colts. He had his best year in 2011, setting career highs with 70-947-6 and starting all 16 games for the first time.

"I will be signing with the Washington Redskins and I'm very excited about the opportunity in front of me," Garcon wrote. "I want to thank all Colts fans from the bottom of my heart for all the love and support you've shown me the past 4 years and I hope that at some level u will still follow my career, as I will continue to share my life with you on here..."

The contract is a five-year deal reportedly worth $42.5 million with $21 million in guarantees.

The way we see it

Garcon may be exactly the type of downfield threat Mike Shanahan wants for his offense. With Santana Moss nearing the end of his career, the team needs another weapon to worry opponents. Garcon will be a nice complement to 2011 rookie WR Leonard Hankerson and TE Fred Davis and should benefit from the strong arm of Robert Griffin III, who is expected to be the Redskins' first-round draft choice.

Fantasy spin

Pierre Garcon let the world know by tweet (@PierreGarcon85) that he is signing with the Redskins. The team feels Santana Moss is at the end of his career, and it needed someone to stretch the field as Moss could not do so. Garcon will be the team's No. 1 receiver. Is he a No. 1 fantasy receiver?

Despite a down season for the Colts, Garcon had a career year, going 70-947-6 on 134 targets — a per-game average of 4.4 catches for 59.2 yards and 0.4 TDs on 8.4 targets in 16 games. He also turned down the Colts' overtures to keep him in Indianapolis.

He'll enter as the team's No. 1 WR, but with an unknown at QB, his value won't be fully known until after free agency and the NFL draft. There's a chance Robert Griffin III could be the starter, but fantasy owners would rather have a veteran, as a rookie could bring disastrous fantasy results.

Garcon produced last year with Kerry Collins, Dan Orlovsky and Curtis Painter at QB, but all those players had experience at an NFL level. Even Painter, after learning from Manning for two preseasons, was not thrown into the fire right away last year. A rookie would set Garcon's fantasy value back with only one training camp, a new offense and stronger competition than he faced in college. View Garcon as a No. 3 or flex-option fantasy receiver until we see who his QB is.
