The Texans released QB Matt Leinart on Monday evening, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Houston signed Leinart before the 2010 season. The former No. 10 overall pick began his career with the Cardinals in 2006.

Leinart started for the injured Matt Schaub in Week 12 but injured his left collarbone and missed the rest of the season. In that game, Leinart completed 10-of-13 passes for 57 yards and a touchdown before suffering the injury.

Leinart has 18 starts in his career — 11 of those came in his rookie campaign in '06 — and has 15 career touchdowns and 20 interceptions.

Rookie QB T.J. Yates took over at quarterback for the Texans after Leinart's injury and will likely be Schaub's backup in 2012.

The team also released FB Lawrence Vickers. The lead blocker for All-Pro RB Arian Foster, Vickers played one season in Houston after five with the Browns.
