In a move that comes as little surprise, the Cowboys have released CB Terence Newman. The news was first reported by ESPN Dallas.
Newman, a former first-round pick of the Cowboys, spent nine seasons with the team, starting 131 games. That includes 14 games in 2011, where he had 53 tackles and four interceptions.
The move clears about $6 million in salary for the team. It is expected the Cowboys will attempt to sign former Chiefs CB Brandon Carr, one of the top defensive backs on the free agent market.
