The Jets agreed in principle on a new contract with OLB Bryan Thomas, keeping him as the longest-tenured player on the roster.

It is reportedly a one-year deal.

Thomas finished the 2011 season on injured reserve after suffering an Achilles tendon injury. He has been with the Jets since 2002 and played in every game from 2005-10.

Thomas has 418 career tackles, 31 sacks and 10 passes defensed. He had technically become an unrestricted free agency at 4 p.m. ET before agreeing to a new deal to stay with the Gang Green.

The way we see it

The Jets appear confident that Thomas will be healthy for the 2012 season. Missing him in 2011 was a big blow on and off the field. Teams had success running the football outside on the Jets and there were problems in New York's locker room, something the veteran could have help keep down.
