WR Randy Moss put on a dazzling performance in the Big Easy. Now, the free-agent receiver is on his way to the Bay Area to work out for the 49ers, accordng to ESPN's Adam Schefter. He will work out on Monday, less than a week after he put up an "off-the-charts workout" for the Saints.

San Francisco could use a standout wide receiver. The 49ers finished 29th in the league in passing yards per game last season, and they are reportedly committed to keeping QB Alex Smith under center. WR Michael Crabtree was the 49ers' leading receiver last season with 72 catches and 874 receiving yards but had only four touchdowns. TE Vernon Davis led the team with six TD receptions.

Whether Moss is still a standout receiver is less clear. His next touchdown reception, his 154th, would put him in second place in NFL history, and he has also compiled 14,858 receiving yards and 954 receptions. Indeed, he has surpassed the millennium mark 10 times, but 2010 wasn't one of them. In his last season in the NFL — he sat out 2011 — he wore three uniforms and failed to make any of them stick, finishing with just 393 receiving yards, after which he retired — temporarily.
