The Jaguars announced Friday morning that they have re-signed veteran OT Guy Whimper, who was set to become an unrestricted free agent. Length and terms of the contract are undisclosed.
Whimper, who turns 29 in May, started a career-high 15 games in 2011 — 14 at right tackle and one at left tackle. He was part of an offensive line that paved the way for RB Maurice Jones-Drew's NFL-best 1,606 rushing yards. The Jaguars ranked 12th in the NFL and sixth in the AFC with 123.1 rushing yards per game.
The 6-5, 302-pound Whimper has played in 51 games, with 16 starts in six seasons. He was originally a 2006 fourth-round draft pick of the Giants before joining the Jaguars on Nov. 2, 2010. He has played in 21 games for the Jaguars over the past two seasons.
