The Buccaneers used their franchise tag on PK Connor Barth, announcing the move just minutes before Monday's deadline.
The 25-year-old Barth made nearly 93 percent of his field goals in 2011, going 26-of-28. He also made all 23 extra point attempts he took for the Bucs.
Barth is one of five kickers who received the franchise tag this year, joining the Phil Dawson, Mike Nugent, Matt Prater and Josh Scobee.
The way we see it
Barth has steadily improved over the course of his career and it would be no surprise if he and the Bucs eventually agree on a long-term deal. He does not kick off — those duties are handled by P Michael Koenen — but Barth has become a very reliable player for Tampa Bay.
