The Jaguars have placed the franchise tag on PK Josh Scobee, locking up the kicker for at least one more season. The news was first reported on Monday by Tania Ganguli of the Florida Times-Union.

Scobee made 23-of-25 field-goal attempts during the 2011 season, along with all 24 point-after tries that he attempted. The team's placekicker since 2004 has only once had a year where he has made less than 76 percent of his FG attempts.

Scobee also has been quite efficient on kickoffs. Last season, 67.5 percent of his kickoffs went for touchdbacks.

According to Ganguli, Scobee does not want to be franchised by the team and is not planning on signing the tender.

The way we see it

This is not a surprising move by the Jaguars. Scobee is one of the best young kickers in football and placing the franchise tag on him is a cost-effective move as the two sides work toward a new deal.

Jacksonville can now turn its attention toward re-signing S Dwight Lowery, an unsung part of the Jaguars' defensive resurgence in 2011.
