The Bengals placed their franchise tag on PK Mike Nugent on Friday. Nugent, a seventh-year veteran, converted on 33-of-38 field-goal attempts in the 2011 season.
Nugent joined the Bengals in 2010. He spent his first four seasons with the Jets and split the '09 season with the Buccaneers and Cardinals.
In his career, Nugent has made 80.9 percent of his FG attempts and is 147-of-150 on point-after tries. He had 36 touchbacks last season on 80 kickoffs. The 2011 campaign was the first in which Nugent played all 16 games since 2007.
The projected franchise tender for kickers this offseason is worth an estimated $2.6 million, according to PFW correspondent and Cincinnati Enquirer writer Joe Reedy.
