Bengals WR Jerome Simpson, a free agent this offseason, pled guilty on Thursday to a drug charge in a Kentucky courthouse.

Simpson was arrested in January for trafficking marijuana after a shipment containing the drug was sent from California to his home. He pled guilty in Kenton County Circuit Court to a felony count of a prohibited act relating to a controlled substance. He did so in an agreement with prosecutors that could lead to Simpson going to jail.

The agreement includes a recommended 60-day jail sentence, although that could include a work release provision that would allow Simpson to work out with his teammates. It also would include three years probation, 200 hours of community service and a mandatory drug-treatment program. The sentence will be decided on April 5.

Simpson had 50 receptions for 725 yards last season for the Bengals, who qualified for the playoffs as a wild-card team. He might be subjected to an NFL suspension for violating the league's personal-conduct policy.
