The Bills' tight end position got a boost last season thanks to Scott Chandler, who tied a franchise record for tight ends with six touchdown catches. Buffalo is a franchise that rarely has found success at the position, but Chan Gailey is in no rush to try and force the issue to keep up with what the division-rival Patriots have in dynamic players like Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez — despite that clearly becoming a trend in the league.

"We'll use a guy that has talent. I'm not going to try and put a square peg in a round hole just to say we've got a tight end or just to use a tight end," Gailey told PFW from the NFL Scouting Combine. "If we're better off with four wide receivers on the field or three wide receivers and two running backs — my job is to put the best players on the field and get the most out of them."

Chandler is set to be an unrestricted free agent. "We're in contact with (Chandler's) representatives and we're trying very hard to get him back in the fold and get a deal done with him," assistant GM Doug Whaley said during a live chat with Bills fans, according to the team's website.

Chandler was effective in the red zone and as a run blocker. There is not much behind Chandler on the depth chart, but as Gailey stated, having a seam-stretching tight end is not a huge priority for his offense.
