The Saints volunteered to play in the Hall of Fame game this coming August, and according to PFW correspondent Mike Triplett of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, the league has taken them up on their offer.
Fox Sports reported earlier on Thursday that the Saints wanted to participate in the game, mainly because one of their own — OT Willie Roaf — is being honored that weekend. Roaf played nine seasons with the Saints and is the third member from the franchise to be inducted into Canton, following administrator Jim Finks and LB Rickey Jackson.
The 2012 Hall of Fame game will be played on Aug. 5. Last year's game was canceled because of the lockout. New Orleans' opponent in the game has yet to be determined.
