Jermichael Finley is staying in Green Bay for two more years.
Finley confirmed the signing by tweeting, "It's TRUE! Thank you so much to the Packers organization, all of my fans, and my beautiful wife. Happy Bday. Let's GO Packers!! Back soon..."
Finley will earn $5.75 million this year and $8.25 million in 2013, according to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
The way we see it
There had been speculation that the Packers might use their franchise tag on Finley, but now that won't be necessary. Finley needs to overcome injuries and inconsistent hands to reach his immense potential. This signing opens up the possibility of the Packers using their franchise tag on C Scott Wells or even QB Matt Flynn, whom they could conceivably tag and sign with the intention of trading him.
