It is no secret the Jaguars must add multiple receivers to stock a fairly bare cupboard this offseason in order to give QB Blaine Gabbert a chance to be successful. But it must be mentioned that of equal importance will be getting their current pass catchers to play better than they did in 2011. New head coach Mike Mularkey is a former tight end, and fixing what ails TE Marcedes Lewis will be one of his top priorities. WR Mike Thomas is another player who did not meet expectations after receiving a new deal last year. If GM Gene Smith can acquire one or two big, vertical receivers who can work outside the numbers, Thomas should benefit from being asked to work mainly out of the slot where he is ideally suited. Jarett Dillard and Cecil Shorts, who both were drafted by Smith, also must show great improvement. Shorts is likely to get a roster spot because he is only entering Year Two, but Dillard, a third-year veteran, could be feeling the heat come summer time.
