The Dolphins have gone to Canada to add depth to the running back position.

According to The Canadian Press, the Dolphins have signed RB Jerome Messam, who rushed for 1,057 yards last year with the Edmonton Eskimos.

Reports came out over the weekend that Messam had been offered the contract, but he had yet to sign it. A CFL source told The Canadian Press that Messam signed a multi-year deal with Miami.

The 26-year-old is a Toronto native who became the first Canadian since 2000 to rush for over 1,000 yards. He was named CFL's outstanding Canadian. Messam is 6-3 and 245 pounds.

The Dolphins have Reggie Bush and Daniel Thomas in the backfield and short-yardage back Lex Hilliard is a restricted free agent.
