The Bengals have named Mark Carrier as their defensive backs coach and promoted Paul Guenther to linebackers coach.

Carrier, who spent 11 seasons as an NFL safety with the Bears, Lions and Redskins, served as the defensive line coach for the Jets the past two seasons. Before that he had spent four seasons as an assistant secondary coach with the Ravens. He replaces Kevin Coyle, who left to be the Dolphins' defensive coordinator.

Guenther, who will be entering his eighth season with the team in 2012, previously has worked with the Bengals' special teams, linebackers and defensive backs. He replaces Jeff FitzGerald, whose contract was not renewed by the team.
