The Vikings announced Saturday the promotion of George Paton to assistant general manager. Paton had reportedly been one of two finalists for the Rams' vacant GM position.

According to the team's website, Paton decided late Friday that he wanted to remain in Minnesota.

"George has been an integral part of our personnel department since he arrived in 2007," said Rick Spielman, who was recently promoted to general manager. "His work ethic, leadership, professionalism and keen eye for identifying talented football players will continue to be a major asset for our organization as we take on the challenges of competing in the NFC North and winning the Super Bowl."

The other reported finalist for the Rams' GM job is Les Snead, the Falcons' director of player personnel.
