The Titans announced on Friday they have reached a contract extension with WR Lavelle Hawkins. The receiver was set to become a restricted free agent.

Set to enter his fourth season in the league, Hawkins had a career year in 2011. He caught 47 passes for 470 yards and one touchdown while playing in all 16 games and starting two.

Terms and conditions of the deal were not announced.

The way we see it

With No. 1 wideout Kenny Britt lost for the season to injury, Hawkins took full advantage of his opportunity in 2011. He flashed big-play ability while steadily improving throughout the season.

Hawkins is by no means a finished product — he still has a penchant for dropping balls and his route running needs improving — but the maturity he showed last season was enough to convince the Titans to lock him up for at least another year.
